After all this time, Notepad and Paint continue to be core Windows tools, allowing users to dive in and create without heavy system demands.

For taking notes, adding simple image edits, creating new images, or converting formats, these apps have continually served users well.

As Windows progresses, these apps have benefited from key updates – from total rewrites and updated interfaces to Microsoft Store releases, allowing seamless updates without system reboots.

But Microsoft is planning even more substantial updates that will change the way we interact with both apps.

Both apps will have AI, allowing users to correct, create, and erase. Notepad’s new ‘Rewrite’ feature will offer alternative text suggestions, similar to Grammarly or ChatGPT.

With generative fill and erase features, Paint is set to reach a whole new level, making it more than just a basic art app.

These exciting changes are sure to put pressure on major players like Adobe.

“With generative fill, you can make edits and additions with just a few words while maintaining the existing art style of your project,” said Windows Inbox Apps group product manager Dave Grochocki.

“We are also introducing generative erase, a new AI-powered tool that helps you remove unwanted objects from the canvas, filling in the empty space left behind to make it look like the object was never there.”

At this moment, these features are available to Windows Insider users, but will soon roll out to Co-Pilot Plus PC models and later to all Windows 11 users.

With Office 2024, Microsoft introduces a one-time purchase option to replace Office 2021. This version features better integration, improved cloud support, and a range of new productivity tools.

It’s important to note that Microsoft 365 operates on a monthly or annual subscription model for access to its features.
