The smartphone giant Apple is expected to make the iPhone 17 in India beyond 2024.

According to Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo, in the second half of 2025, the initial production of the standard iPhone 17 will begin in India.

The New Product Introduction for Apple iPhone 17 will be announced in India, marking the first time outside China.

Moreover, Kuo explained that to minimise design risk, the standard iPhone is chosen as a means of developing its less complex designs. The company is diversifying its production out of China, starting with the iPhone 15, which was manufactured prior to this announcement.

By 2024, the proportion of Apple iPhones produced in India will reach 20 to 25 %.

In parallel, by 2024, the production scale of Foxconn in Zhengzhou and Taiyuan, China, is expected to decrease by 35 to 45 % and 75 to 85 %, respectively.

The iPhone maker works closely with Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron (trading as Tata) to manufacture the products in India.

Kuo argues that Apple is in a position to strengthen its relations with the local authorities through increased production in India.

Foxconn, one of the world’s largest electronics producers, has a vital role to play in this paradigm shift.

In India, Foxconn today holds and operates over 75 % of its manufacturing capacity for the iPhone, which ensures that it is a major player in Apple’s worldwide supply chain.

As India becomes a growing market for Apple products, this also creates an opportunity to diversify production from China and strengthen relations with the Indian government.

In India, the TATA group is starting to make iPhones for local and global markets.

“Thank you Wistron for your contributions, and great going for Apple in building a global supply chain from India with Indian companies at its helm,” wrote Chandrasekhar on social platform X.

India’s Deputy IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar made this announcement moments after Wistron’s board approved the sale of the Taiwanese firm’s plant in the southern part of India.
