Over the years, countless WhatsApp users have noticed that the platform is becoming more like Instagram, a fact that is hardly surprising given that Instagram is part of the same family under the Meta banner.
With each new update to the popular messaging platform, this observation is proving to be increasingly true. Most recently, it has made strides in enhancing its status-sharing experience and introduced a function that permits users to like status updates, much like on Instagram and Facebook.
WhatsApp is working on a feature that would enable users to share music through their status updates.
This capability was detected in the latest beta version of the app for Android, 2.24.22.11, available through the Google Play Beta Programme.
With this new feature, users will be able to add music to their status updates, bringing more life to their messages. A new “Music” button will appear on the status-sharing screen, allowing users to search for their favourite songs and artists. Once they locate the right track, they can easily add it to their status.
According to WABETAINFO, the reporter for WhatsApp’s upcoming features, “WhatsApp is moving in the same direction by planning to add music-sharing in status updates in the future. This new feature will introduce a music button within the drawing editor that appears after selecting a photo or a video for the status update. By tapping this button, users will be able to search for songs or specific artists, making it easier to find and add their favorite music directly to the status.”
It furthermore added, “Once a song is selected, it will be automatically integrated into the status update, allowing users to personalize their photos or videos with music. This enhancement will likely make status updates more engaging and expressive, as users can set the mood or add context to their shared content using music.”
Most recently, WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, partnered with Blumhouse to develop an AI video tool called ‘MovieGen’.
