WhatsApp, a subsidiary of Meta, is enhancing its call feature by introducing the ability to share video and audio. This new functionality, however, will be exclusive to video calls.

The feature was initially tested on the iOS platform, as reported by W.A.Beta Info. It is now undergoing testing for the Android operating system as well.

The video call’s screen share feature will facilitate video and audio sharing. Consequently, all call participants can simultaneously enjoy a video or song on a device.

Nonetheless, this feature becomes inactive if the video is turned off during a call.

Android users who are part of the WhatsApp beta program, specifically those using version 2.23.26.18, are currently testing this feature. It is expected to be made available to the broader user base.

WABetaInfo added, “We believe that introducing a feature to share device audio during a video call with the screen-sharing option active, offers several advantages. Specifically, this feature facilitates multimedia collaboration by enabling users to collectively listen to video and music audio together during a video call. “

This upcoming WhatsApp feature resembles Apple’s Share Play, which was introduced in 2021. Share Play on Apple’s FaceTime allows users to collectively watch videos, listen to music, and even play games.
