Surprisingly, Instagram has emerged as the most uninstalled app of the year, an unexpected turn of events given its popularity for sharing beautiful photographs and entertaining clips with the touch of a screen.

Throughout 2023, a significant number of users choose to uninstall Instagram from their mobile devices, resulting in a decrease in the active user base.

According to US IT company TRG Datacenter research, the Meta Threads app hit a record-breaking 100 million users in just five days, resulting in a significant 80 per cent decline in Instagram’s active user base.

The research results highlight users’ widespread desire to uninstall the Instagram app.

Additionally, it analysed the average number of times in the In the previous 12 months, people had searched for “how to delete (my) Facebook account”, suggesting that user dissatisfaction is increasing.

An astounding 12,500 users per 100,000 individuals worldwide searched for information on deleting Instagram from their devices, demonstrating that a sizable section of the population is unwilling to continue using this app on their phones.

As we begin the new year, this unexpected pattern inspires reflection on the changing dynamics of digital contact.

Although social media giants like Facebook, WhatsApp, Gmail, Twitter and Google continue to be very popular, and the fall in Instagram’s user base illustrates how consumer preferences are changing in the digital age.

The decisions users make about app retention or removal reflect the ever-changing landscape of our digital experiences and preferences.
