Soon, the Meta-owned Instant Messaging Platform WhatsApp will be able to offer advertisements.
Although the company does not intend to display ads in the main inbox, it could include ads in the Status feature and channels.
According to a report in the Brazilian media, WhatsApp’s executive, Will Cathcart, stated that there was no intention to show ads in the main address book.
The excutive previously added that to the Brazilian media, “The app will remain free, with no ads in your inbox, and bets on messaging services for companies as one of the main revenue generators – the area already generates revenues of US$ 10 billion annually on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Instagram.”
Although it disappoints, as Cathcart denied reports that the Meta-owned messaging service planned to host ads weeks back, this news comes as a total surprise.
Cathcart denied a Financial Times report in September claiming that an advertising campaign would appear on Metaowned Instant Messaging. He told Brazil’s media that this is not the model for displaying ads in an inbox.
According to The Verge, WhatsApp has been considering the introduction of advertisements since 2018.
About 97 % of its ad revenues come from Meta, from its free-owned Facebook and Instagram app.
Currently, WhatsApp relies on business messaging services through Click-To-WhatsApp based on two advertising platforms, such as Facebook, to generate revenues with a user base of more than two billion people worldwide.
WhatsApp’s Android users can save storage space on their phones by saving it to Google Drive.
However, Google announced it’s scrapping this feature.
In the future, users may be required to purchase additional storage once it exceeds its storage capacity.
Although it seems annoying, users have no preferences to save their data securely.
Otherwise, they may have to consider their phone’s storage space to store their data.
