Google has consented to a $700 million payout to its US customers to resolve a lawsuit linked to the Play Store and to foster more competition within the platform.

This agreement is part of the resolution of ‘antitrust’ lawsuits lodged by several US states and consumers.
The settlement terms were submitted to a federal court in San Francisco on Monday.
As per the terms of the lawsuit resolution, Google is set to distribute $630 million to its customers and $70 million to various states.
The settlement is currently pending final approval from the judge.
In addition to a guaranteed $2, eligible customers may receive extra cash depending on their expenditure on the Play Store between August 16, 2016, and September 30, 2023, as stated in the settlement.
All 50 US states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands participated in the settlement.
Google faced allegations of imposing illegal restrictions on app distribution on Android devices and charging excessive fees for in-app transactions.
However, Google has not conceded any wrongdoing.
