AI generated video using Meta Movie Gen (Meta)

Recently, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, launched MovieGen, a tool that transforms written instructions into videos.

Meta is working with Blumhouse Productions, the Hollywood studio known for its hit horror films such as The Purge and Get Out, to test the functionality of this tool. This announcement was made last Thursday.

Meta disclosed this information in a statement last Thursday.

FILMMAKERS SELECTED TO TRIAL MOVIEGEN

In a recent blog post, Meta revealed that it has selected filmmakers Anish Chaganty, the Spurlock Sisters, and Casey Affleck to trial the AI video creation tool called MovieGen. They will use footage generated by MovieGen in their short films.

The short film produced by Chaganty using MovieGen will be featured on Meta’s MovieGen platform. More information about when Affleck and the Spurlock Sisters’ films will be released will be coming soon.

BLUMHOUSE AND AI IN THE FILM INDUSTRY

According to Jason Blum, the CEO of Blumhouse, artists represent the lifeblood of the film industry, and innovative technology will enhance their storytelling capabilities.

HOW MOVIEGEN WORKS

MovieGen, a tool that automatically creates videos from written prompts, allows users to generate sound-inclusive videos from provided descriptions of specific events or locations.

Users can easily write a description of a potential scene, and the tool will generate a corresponding video. Furthermore, it can create soundscapes and music for different scenes and enables users to edit any video they wish.

The MovieGen tool allows users to create videos with a maximum length of 16 seconds and audio clips of up to 45 seconds.

Thanks to its capability for creating short videos, users can easily produce reels and small advertisements for online use. As a result, MovieGen is likely to compete with AI tools from Runway, OpenAI, ElevenLabs, and Cling.

AI ADOPTION AND INDUSTRY STRIKES

At the same time, the recent adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in video games has encouraged Hollywood artists and crew members to demand strikes against leading video game developers like Activision, Warner Bros, and Walt Disney.

The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has announced strikes to promote safety in light of AI usage.
